Lewis Joel Greene

Lewis Joel Greene received a B.A. in Liberal Arts (Magna Cum Laude) from Amherst College – USA in 1955 and a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from Rockefeller University – USA in 1962. He was a biochemist in the Department of Biology at Brookhaven National Laboratory from 1962 to 1974. After being a Fulbright scholar in the Department of Pharmacology of the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto of the University of São Paulo – USP in 1968, Greene settled in Brazil in 1974, where he rose to the rank of  Professor of Cell and Molecular Biology and Head of the Center for Protein Chemistry of the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto – USP. Greene has directed the research of more than 60 masters and doctoral students, has written more than 147 papers in peer-reviewed journals, has more than 3300 citations and H-factor = 30. His research interests are: structure and function of proteins, protein-protein interactions and the molecular basis of cancer. He has been an Editor of the Brazilian Journal of Medical Research since 1980. He was inducted into the Brazilian Order of Scientific Merit, was a founder and past president of the Brazilian Association of Scientific Editors, and is a member of the Brazilian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Brazilian Society of Mass Spectrometry. He is also a member of the American Chemical Society and American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. He was retired from USP in 2004 and continues to teach and advise students as a “Professor Titular Colaborador Senior” at the Faculty of Medicine of Ribeirão Preto, USP and at the Hemocenter of Ribeirao Preto.
